Degrassi

After you read this (or before, or whatever) make sure to watch the video in the post previous to this because it's part of an ongoing thing that will continue tomorrow.

Lately I've been kinda hooked by a show on teen nick called Degrassi. If you haven't heard of it, it's basically about what would happen if you took everything interesting that could possibly happen in a high school (violence, bullying, girls wanting to be on the varsity football team, rich girls doing insanely stupid things, rich girls getting insanely drunk at a school dance, scary jealous boys bringing a knife to a school dance, rape, pregnancy, you get the picture) This is going to sound horrible, but I want my high school experience to be like this. Not the rape or violence or the bad stuff, I just want it to be interesting.  Without drama, school is...well...boring.

I think it's time for a little Degrassi photo montage and to accompany it, here's a song that was actually in one of the episodes. (After listening to it, I might just have to buy it from iTunes for myself :] ) Never Look Back by Zach Berkman.

^Think you recognize him? Yep, that's Drake.

Here's a video my friend Lizzie and I made a while ago with my green screen that I got for my birthday. I really hate the border the website puts around it, but there's nothing I can do to get rid of it.

New Thingies!

If you haven't already noticed, you're either new to my blog or you need glasses. I just got done adding tabs to the top of the blog. Feel free to look at all the new-ness!

Your ideas are needed- for more stuff! If you have any ideas on what else should go in the handy dandy little tabs, comment. Also, I need a shorter and more clever name for the Music and Books page. It doesn't have to be even including music and books, just a name that would fit for a random page that anything good go on. Ideas?

You people make me sick.

I hear people every day say "retarded" like it's a bad thing. Have you ever met an actually retarded person? I think if you had, you would hate yourself for ever saying anything bad about them.

There's a boy at my school who is one of the special-ed kids. He's the sweetest person you could ever meet. Whenever he sees girls walking in the hall, he always stops and says "Good morning ladies" and lets us pass. He also waited to hold a door open for me one time when I was so far behind him, I wouldn't have even held it open for someone if that had been me.

Alan, one of my second or third cousins (I'm not sure which) is, I think, about 40 years old and has the mind of a seven year old. At a family reunion, we were having a watermelon eating contest for all the kids and my mom asked Alan if he wanted to try, but he got shy and said no. Then when we started, he asked my mom, in a shy voice if he could have some watermelon. It was just about the sweetest thing I've ever seen.

I get so close to punching someone right in the face when I'm walking in the halls and everyone tries to avoid getting anywhere close to the special-ed kids. They didn't choose to be like that. They never asked to be different. They never wanted you to find them disgusting, and they aren't disgusting. You are for being so freaking imature.

Sorry for ranting, but I feel like this message really needs to be out there. Your thoughts or stories in comments?

Snow...discussion in comments?

My friend Erin had a stroke of brilliance that brought on this post. So talk in the comments about your thoughts on the snow, snow days, and bricks of ice falling from the sky causing me to miss drama class (grrr...) Anyway, comment!

The more people that say something, the more fun the conversation will be!

What's on my mind today?

In case reading my blog is starting to hurt your eyes, I thought you should probably know that I'm experimenting with new fonts and that it's going to be happening a lot until I find one I like.

Want to guess what I got on my science midterm? Here's a hint- I was the 3rd highest grade in the class. I bet you guessed something in the 90%'s. Well you're wrong. I got a 75%.  The highest grade was an 85% and that was from one of my friends who is actually smart! That test was impossible because our teacher never teaches us anything. All we do in class is worksheets and labs. And during the rare times she's trying to make us learn something, the moment someone asks her a question she gets mad and rants for an hour about how we're wasting her time.

While I'm on the subject of ranting about teachers, my home ec. teacher hates my for no reason. I'd take five hours to completely rant about that, so maybe I should just leave it at that she hates me.

Midterms? Read this.

Ugh. Yeah, that's every one's first reaction. Well here's a few studying tips that might help you.

  1. I got this one from a book that my mom got me in about sixth grade- Kiss My Math.  It didn't help me at all at the time, but I was recently flipping through it  and found a test-taking strategy that actually helps. The author calls it a pretend cheat sheet. Basically what you do is get one piece of paper (front and back) and write everything you wish you could take with you during the test. Only write the really important things, so you don't waste any space on your paper. This should help you organize what you really need to study and it can be done with any subject, not just math.
  2. Know whether or not you concentrate better with noise/music or in silence. For me, I can't focus on homework or studying if there is background noise. So if you find yourself not being able to pay attention to homework with the radio playing, you should probably turn it of. But if silence drives you crazy, maybe playing a little music would help. It's all about what works for you.
  3. Flashcards- the classic in studying. Make little stacks of them for every subject with definitions, formulas, dates, and other things you have a hard time remembering. Keep each subject seperate   so you don't get mixed up when you practice them. I put some next to my bed so that I can flip though them right before going to sleep. It's been proven that while you're sleeping, your brain reveiws things from that day. So having the facts in your brain right before bedtime might be a good idea.
  4. Don't spend hours at a time studying. That will just fry your brain and make you not want to study at all. Instead, whenever you find yourself watching old re-runs or stalking people on facebook, go to your room and reveiw flashcards and notes for about a half and hour. Do this often to keep what you're trying to learn fresh in your mind.
  5. Think of things that help you remember the meanings of words. The don't have to make sense to anyone else, because they aren't for anyone else. Like for me, in Spanish I remember the word "Simpatica" because the end sounds like "taco" and tacos are nice. Simpatica=nice. Also, I remember "aburrido" because it sounds like "burrito" and burritos are boring compared to tacos. Therefore- aburrido=boring.
Hope this helps.

Abby Noel

You mean you have to put forth EFFORT to look like an idiot?

While sitting in Spanish class, getting terrifically bored (which I learned was an oxymoron, thanks to a less boring English class) one of the boys* in the class walked up to the pencil sharpener, which is unfortunately right next to my desk. Then I saw him look down at his jeans and pull them down. And then he proceeded to pull his underwear up, as if it wasn't already showing too much. I turned around to see if anyone else had witnessed those two counts of voluntary fashion-slaughter and saw the horrified look on my friend Megan's face. (hey megatron!)  So this gets me back to the post title- I never knew they actually tried to look stupid.

*he should probably remain nameless even though no one who's friends with him at all will ever read this, let alone him.

Game Cheats- Sims 2 (PC)

I was brainstorming things I could post about other then clothes and I came up with that I can post game cheats. So for starters, here are all the cheats I could find for Sims 2

I used to play this game, but unfortunately, it crashed my computer so I don't anymore :(  But for everyone who is lucky enough to be able to play- here you go.

  • To open the cheat window press Ctrl + Shift + C to type the codes in. After typing in the cheat, press enter. (only type one cheat at a time)
  • More Money-  type in "motherlode" into the cheat box. This gives you 50,000 simoleans and you can use it over and over again.
  • Stop your Sims from aging- type in "aging off" into the cheat box. (the same can be done to reverse the effect by typing in "aging on")
  • Full Happiness- type in "maxmotives" to fill all of the happiness bars.
  • Get Abducted by aliens-  (someone please try this- I want to know if it works) Buy the $3.500 telescope, then get a male, adult sim to "stargaze". Type in the cheat "BoolProp testingCheatsEnabled true" While he is stargazing, hold down shift and click on the telescope. It should pop up - "DEBUG-Get Abducted. DO NOT CLICK: Force Error." Cancel the "stargaze" action at the top. Your sim will come back in a few hours- pregnant with an alien baby. (Man, I hope this is true)
  • Have twins- type in "forcetwins"
  • Look at your baby's needs- (make sure you already have the baby before using this cheat) Type in "BoolProp testingCheatsEnabled true" Hold down shift and click on the baby. Choose make SELECTABLE. The baby's picture on the left side of the screen should disapear. Hold down shift and click on the baby again. Choose make SELECTABLE again. you should be able to see the baby's needs just like everyone else in the family now.
Hope this helps someone. Comment with games (wii, computer, DS, or anything) you want me to find cheats for.

Affordable Friday- Gucci

My friend Erin and I came up with a great feature for me to post every Friday. It's called "Affordable Friday" (obviously, from the title) and what is going to happen in that every Friday I'll find an outfit from a specific designer and then find a similar outfit from more affordable stores (like Target, Walmart, Kohls, etc.)
This week, for the first one I'm doing this outfit from Gucci-

                               Designer Outfit

Total Cost- $1735

Bargain Outfit

Total Cost- $55

Four Months and Counting...

I was looking back at past blog posts, and I noticed that exactly four months ago was my first post. I think that's a record for me, because I've had blogs in the past and they haven't even lasted a month. So congratulate me. Do it. Now.

Always,
Abby Noel

P.S. I'm waiting.

I actually don't do this for myself...

The whole point of this blog is the hope that maybe someone is sorta entertained by it. If you actually read my blog, could you just do me a favor and click on one of the opinion buttons at the bottom of each post when you read it. Also if you would comment that would be awesome. It's really easy, and you can tell me what YOU would want to read or watch or whatever. I'll post it if you request it.

(and another thing, if you click the "loved it" button, I'll try and make more posts like that one)

While browsing other blogs for inspiration...

...I actually found some! On a blog called Greedy Girl, the blogger occasionally posts a bunch of pieces found all over the Internet that all fit into one outfit. She calls them "Getaway girls" and then a specific place. So here- my outfit if I was going to tokyo. (which is actually very possible, just saying)

I realize how cliche the Hello Kitty is for Japan, but I felt it was needed :)
More posts like this probably will come soon because, well, I have a lot of free time.

You may know them...

Not to take away from the post below and how true it still is, but I thought maybe I should post something else finally.

Thanks to iTunes and a "discovery download" a while ago, I found "Digital Daggers" a band that was just formed in early 2010. The only have five songs out at the time (No Easy Way from youtube is below) but they're probably going to come out with more at any time. So, enjoy, I guess.

I'm not going to pretend I'm happy about this.

There's this theater company near me that is going to be putting on the play "Alice in Wonderland" and I really want to audition for it, but my mom isn't letting me because it takes a while to get there and rehearsals go until pretty late at night. I'm just really frustrated because the only thing that I'm doing right now is one class, once a week, for an hour. Not to mention the class is filled with a bunch of six graders who seem  to be there just to socialize while I'm actually trying to get something out of it. They always end up wasting my time (which is almost nothing to begin with) by talking and fooling around.

You always hear about how the big stars today have been acting since they were like 7 and have been in this and this and this and this before they even stepped into high school. I feel like I'm just wasting a huge chunk of my life when I could actually be going out and getting acting experience.

I was in a play at school not too long ago, but I was cast as a really small part and for most of the rehearsals it would kill me that I wasn't doing anything but singing while I saw a bunch of my friends going of and working on their acting parts. It made me think "why the heck am I even doing this if I'm obviously not good enough?" I told my mom it was driving me crazy and she told me that I should just quit if it's really that bad. But I couldn't quit. I physically could not let myself quit. I knew it was at least SOMETHING and I couldn't just leave. It was the smallest part possible, but I knew that at least I was on the stage doing what I love.

I really don't know what else I can say.

A Student's Thought Process While In Math Class

No, Mr. Worksheet. That is not a parallelogram. I have no idea why, but I know that it is not. Oh no! Please, no more algebra! I thought I was done with that last year. No one knows where your X is and no one cares. Maybe if you had treated her better, she wouldn't have left you. Why are we learning this? When in life am I going to be walking down the street and say "Gee, I wonder if that window is a parallelogram?"  Exactly. Never. And even if I knew whether or not it was a parallelogram, how on earth would that information help me at all? Uh oh. My pencil is slightly dull. I should go sharpen it and then accidently break it on my way back to my seat just so I can sharpen it again because the pencil sharpener is loud and it makes people mad. :)  I've been daydreaming for 40 minutes now. I should probably work on one of the problems. Nah. The would involve thinking and thinking involves effort and I'm not too fond of effort. So It's not really worht it. Heck ya, partner work! That means I don't have to do anything. Charlie is singing again. But that's not surprise. For some reason he's always singing. I'm going to look at the clock now. That's cool- only 20 more mintutes. I wish it was less though. Oh my gosh- 19 more minutes! My wish came true! I should wish for things more often. I wish for a pony. Dang it! It didn't work that time! NISH! Charlie said that. I like that word. It reminds me of icecream. I wish I was in an icecream parlor right not. Dang it! It didn't work that time either. I'm still stuck in this horrible torture chamber.
Oooooooohhh....butterfly!
